Field Hockey falls to Saint Michael's, 2-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team lost to Saint Michael's College, 2-1 at Duffy Field. The Owls drop to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in the Northeast 10, while the Purple Knights improve to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the Northeast 10.

Goalkeeper Janelle Ward (Kitchener, Ontario) scored her first goal of her collegiate career on an assist from Jessica Maier (Enfield, Conn.). Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) made 16 saves, while Chloe Knight (New Milford, Conn.) added a defensive save.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Janelle Ward score her first collegiate goal of her career during the second quarter, diving and knocking it in. Jessica Maier recorded her first assist of the season on the play. 
  • Saint Michael's tied the game right before halftime to even the score up at one. 
  • The score remained tied into the fourth quarter, when Saint Michael's took a 2-1 lead in the 51st minute. 
 
Notes
  • Ward became the sixth different player to score a goal this season, and joined Kaitlyn Bourque (Enfield, Conn.) as freshmen to score a goal this season.
  • Maier's assist was the sixth of her collegiate career. 
  • Knight's defensive save was the first of her collegiate career. 
  • Craft's 16 saves brings her season total for this year to 121.
