Women's Basketball Falls To AIC, 65-57

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell to American International College, 65-57 at Moore Field House. The Owls drop to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast 10, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the NE10.
 
Senior Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) was the force behind the Owls offense as she collected a team-high 20 points and a career-high eight steals, while chipping in five rebounds and two assists. Redshirt-junior Jessica Fressle (Levittown, N.Y.) collected 16 points, seven rebounds and had a steal, while shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

How It Happened
  • AIC came out of the gates on a 14-3 run to start the game, which was their largest lead held all game. The Yellow Jackets held the Owls to just six points the whole quarter.
  • Southern Connecticut found life in the second quarter opening it on a 7-2 run. Later in the frame, the Owls took their first lead of the game after they ignited on an 8-0 run over a minute's time. AIC took a four-point lead heading into the half.
  • The third quarter was the free throw show as both teams combined for 14 free throws with the Owls collecting eight of their 16 points from the line. AIC held a two-point lead going into the final quarter.
  • SCSU stayed close to AIC's lead to begin the quarter, but the Yellow Jackets continued their consistent play throughout earning the eight-point victory.  

Notes
  • Imani Wheeler collected her sixth-straight double-digit point game and second game with 20 or more points this season.
  • Wheeler had a career-high eight steals against AIC. Her previous career-high was on Jan. 15 against Saint Anselm when she had six. She has also collected at least one steal in each of the Owls' six games this season.

The Owls will go on a brief hiatus until Dec. 4 when they are set to face NE10 rival, the University of New Haven at 5:30 p.m. at Charger Gymnasium in West Haven, Conn.
