Women's Basketball Falls To Massachusetts

AMHERST, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell to the University of Massachusetts, 86-43 at the Mullins Center. The Owls fall to 7-5 overall while the Minutewomen improve to 10-3 overall.

Freshmen Alexa Kellner (Stamford, Conn.) and Blake Greer (Victoria, Minn.) were the Owls' leaders on offense. Kellner had eight points and four rebounds, while Greer had eight points on 4-for-6 shooting. Redshirt junior Ednaija Lassiter (Boston, Mass.) collected seven points and seven rebounds, while freshman Amani Boston (Dorcester, Mass.) added seven points.

How It Happened
  • Southern Connecticut collected the first points of the game after Jessica Fressle drained a three pointer off a feed from Alexa Kellner. UMass went on a 13-6 run in the remaining five minutes of the first quarter finishing the frame up by seven.
  • The Minutewomen took the second quarter by storm outscoring the Owls 22-10 going into halftime with a 19-point lead.
  • UMass continued their push in the third quarter as they outscored the Owls 25-8. Boston and Greer scored three points in the quarter, while Aaliyah Walker added a pair of free throws.
  • In the fourth quarter, Greer scored five points while Lassiter added four of her own, but the Minutewomen outscored the Owls 20-13 in the final quarter to secure the win.


Notes
  • This was the first time these two teams faced off each other in 36 years. The last time was on Dec. 13, 1983 when the Owls captured a 68-52 victory over the Minutewomen.

The Owls return home to face Pace University on Saturday, Dec. 4 for their first Northeast 10 matchup of 2020 at Moore Field House.
