Women Basketball Falls To Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell to Le Moyne College, 77-51 in Northeast 10 conference play at Ted Grant Court. The Owls drop to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the NE10, while the Dolphins improve to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the NE10.

The Owls offense was led by a pair of freshman as Amani Boston (Dorcester, Mass.) notched 14 points and added three rebounds shooting 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, while redshirt freshman Alexa Kellner (Stamford, Conn.) tallied 12 points and three rebounds. Redshirt junior Jessica Fressle (Levittown, N.Y.) tallied nine points with two steals and shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

How It Happened
  • The opening quarter of play saw both teams getting equal opportunities, but Le Moyne was able to capitalize and held the lead for the first three minutes.  A Fressle steal at 6:47 allowed Kellner to drain a three on a fastbreak and tie the game. Two back-to-back three-pointers from the Dolphins was enough to catch fire and hold the lead by four at the conclusion of the quarter.
  • An 8-0 run for Le Moyne midway through the second quarter allowed them to gain a 10-point lead with six minutes remaining. Southern came within four points of the Dolphins, but Le Moyne went on a 10-0 run to finish the quarter taking a 14-point lead heading into halftime.
  • Le Moyne's paced remained the same at the beginning of the third quarter as they opened on an 11-point run taking a 25-point lead with just under six minutes remaining in the frame. Southern attempted to cut the deficit, but the Dolphins led by 24 after 30 minutes played. 
  • The Dolphins trio of jumpers allowed them to open the final quarter on a 6-0 run. Two back-to-back three-pointers from Kellner cut Le Moyne's lead to 24, but the Dolphins attack continued to push allowing them to capture the 77-51 victory at home.

  • Amani Boston collected her third double-digit point game of the season with 14.
  • Alexa Kellner collected her second-straight game in double-digit points and her fourth of the season.
  • The Owls collected 22 of their 51 points from nonstarters, 14 of which belonged to Boston.
