Owls Defeat Le Moyne 97-91 In Overtime Thriller

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated the Southwest Division leaders Le Moyne, 97-91 in overtime, at Ted Grant Court. The Owls improve to 16-10 overall and 11-7 in the conference, while the Dolphins fall to 14-8 overall and 11-6 in the conference.
 
Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) broke his season and career-high in points with 35 in the win, while also collecting four rebounds. Luke Beesley (Champaign, Ill.) scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots. Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) tallied 15 points and five assists. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a hard-fought ten minutes, the Owls went on an 8-0 run to take a 30-20 lead at the 8:13 mark.
  • Southern rode the hot hand of Isaiah McLeod, who scored 16 points in the first half to help the Owls take a 47-39 lead into halftime.
  • The Owls were able to hold a two-possession lead until the Dolphins went on an 11-3 run to come within two, 74-72.
  • Le Moyne's sank a pair of free throws to tie the game at 84-84 with 2.8 seconds left on the clock to force overtime.
  • The Owls outscored the home team, 13-7, in overtime to take the 97-91 victory.
 
FACTS
  • McLeod broke his previous career-high of 34 points that he previously set on Feb. 13 against AIC. The senior went 7-for-9 from three-point range on his way to a 12-for-18 night from the field.
  • The Owls were hot from three-point range as they converted on 12-of-20. On the other end of the floor, Le Moyne shot just 6-for-22 from long range. 
  • McLeod now has 1,691 career points, which ranks 10th all-time at Southern Connecticut.
  • Five Owls hit double-digit points: McLeod (35), Beesley (16), Ives (15), Wallace (11) and Seaforth (11). The last time five Owls reached double-digit points was on Feb. 9, 2019 against Saint Rose.
