Baseball Takes 13-4 Loss At Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team took a 13-5 loss at Palm Beach Atlantic in a non-conference matchup at Jake Rubin Park in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Owls fall to 1-3 on the season while PBA improves to 4-5 on the season.

Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) was 1-for-4 with his second home run of the season while also driving in two runs. Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.), Mac Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) all collected two hits apiece while Criscuolo and Finnegan both drove in a run and both of DeMartino's hits went for doubles.

On the mound, Ronnie Rossomando (Stratford, Conn.)  took the loss in his Owls' debut after surrendering seven runs on eight hits over five innings. Cameron Winiarz (Uncasville, Conn.) was tagged for a pair of unearned runs while Quantique White (New London, Conn.) gave up four runs over the final innings.

How It Happened
  • Lamberti staked the Owls to a 2-0 lead after he followed Anthony Zambito's (Ridgewood, N.J.) single with a two-run homer for his second of the year.
  • Palm Beach answered with a run in the bottom of the 1st inning before taking on six more runs through the 5th to take a 7-2 lead.
  • In the 6th, Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) led-off with a single to right field before stealing second following a pair of outs. Criscuolo then drove in his co-captain with a single through the left side of the infield to pull the Owls to within four runs, 7-3.
  • In the 8th, Lamberti drew a one-out walk before stealing second. Criscuolo followed with a single, with Lamberti getting thrown out at the plate. Criscuolo moved to second on the throw home and was driven in by Finnegan, who lined a single to left-center.

Notes
  • Lamberti's second home run of the season doubles his career total after he had a single home run last season.
  • Through the Owls first four games, 10 different players have driven in runs, while 12 different players have scored. The team is also hitting .307 (43-140) with six home runs, 26 RBI and 26 runs scored.
  • In addition, 15 of the Owls' 43 hits have gone for extra bases, including all three of Mike DeMartino's (New Haven, Conn.) hits and four of Criscuolo's seven hits, which includes two home runs.
  • Lamberti leads the team in hits (8), home runs (2) and RBI (7) through the team's first weekend of play.
  • Criscuolo, Lamberti and Finnegan are a combined 9-for-12 (.750) with runners in scoring position.
