Steinauer With Record-Breaking Day, Owls Fall To Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball fell to Adelphi, 71-63 at the Center for Recreation and Sport. The Owls drop to 13-14 overall and 7-12 in the Northeast 10 conference, while the Panthers improve to 14-12 overall and 11-8 in the NE10.
 
Junior Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) collected her 22nd double-double of the season with 12 points and 21 rebounds, while adding five assists and two steals. With 21 rebounds tonight, Steinauer also broke the 35-year old Northeast 10 conference record for rebounds in a single-season with 416. Senior Amanda Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) notched 15 points and two steals, shooting 5-for-9 from the three-point line and knocked down four of her last five attempts. Aaliyah Walker (Toronto, Ontario) collected 11 points, five assists and four rebounds.
 
1st Quarter (SCS 21, ADE 14)
• Southern Connecticut opened the game on an 18-3 run in just over five minutes of play. The Owls eventually outscored the Panthers 21-14.
• Steinauer collected seven rebounds, six points (2-for-2 from beyond the arc) and three assists, while the Owls shot 5-for-6 (83.3%) from the three-point line.
 
2nd Quarter (SCS 32, ADE 29)
• Despite edging the Owls 15-11 in scoring, Adelphi trailed Southern by three heading into halftime.
• Steinauer collected eight of her eventual 21 rebounds in the second frame.
 
3rd Quarter (ADE 46, SCS 43)
• Adelphi took over the lead with a 15-3 run to finish out the remaining seven minutes of the third quarter.
 
4th Quarter (ADE 71, SCS 63)
• A balanced attack for the Panthers through 40 minutes of play was the difference-maker as Adelphi captured the 71-63 victory in Garden City, N.Y.
• Pfohl went 3-for-3 in the final frame from beyond the arc, collecting nine of her eventual 15 points.
 
Facts
Kiana Steinauer collected her NCAA Division II and conference-leading 22nd double-double of the year with 12 points and 21 rebounds.
• With five first-quarter rebounds, Steinauer has collected 479-points and 416-rebounds this season. She is the first player in Southern Connecticut history to collect 400 points and 400 rebounds in a single season.
• With 21 rebounds tonight, Steinauer also broke the 35-year old Northeast 10 conference record for single-season rebounds with 416 this season. The previous conference record was set in 1982-83 by Assumption's Lisa McCarthy where she had 412 in a single season.
• With five three-pointers on the night, Amanda Pfohl has hit five-or-more three-pointers in nine separate games this season. • Pfohl needs three more three-pointers this season to hit 100. She previously set the SCSU record for single-season three pointers made against American International College on Feb. 13.
• The Owls had three players in double-digit points led by Pfohl who had 15, Steinauer had 12 and Walker had 11.
