Owls Clinch NE10 Berth With Triumphant OT Thriller Against Pace

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Keyed by a third 30-plus point performance this season from Kiana Steinauer, the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball squad triumphantly defeated Pace University, 82-78 in overtime on Senior Day at Moore Field House. With this win the Owls improve to 8-12 in the Northeast 10 and 14-14 overall, clinching a berth in the NE10 tournament, while the Setters drop to 6-13 in the NE10 and 9-18 overall. The Owls honored its four-member senior class before the start of today's game: Jana Migliaro, Amanda Pfohl, Erin Ryder and Allie Smith.
 
Junior Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) tallied a career-high 34 points and 11 rebounds for her 23rddouble-double of the season, adding four steals and two assists, while shooting 12-for-21 (57%) and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Junior Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) tied a career-high in points with 23 shooting 7-for-14 from the field and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc on the night with a game-high six assists. Senior Erin Ryder (Congers, N.Y.) chipped in 11 points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.    
 
1stQuarter (SCS 14, PAC 12)
• Down by one with four seconds remaining in the quarter, Ryder drained a three to put the Owls up by two heading into the second. 
• Steinauer collected four of her eventual 11 rebounds in a four-minute span in the first frame. 
 
2ndQuarter (SCS 38, PAC 27)
• The Owls went on a 14-4 run late in the second quarter, outscoring the Setters 24-15 through ten minutes of play.
• Steinauer was a 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, while collecting two in a two-minute window, while Wheeler added three of her eventual six assists in this quarter. Ryder sunk another late-quarter three-pointer that set the Owls lead to 11 heading into halftime.
 
3rdQuarter (SCS 57, PAC 50)
• Pace's offense heightened in the third quarter as they outscored Southern for the first time in the game, 23-19.
• Wheeler went 2-for-3 from the three-point line, collecting six out of her eventual 10 third quarter points off of three-pointers. 
 
4thQuarter (SCS 71, PAC 71)
• Steinauer continued her surge laying down a three-pointer eight seconds into the quarter putting the Owls up by six.
• Pace hit a layup with no time left on the clock to force overtime, 71-71. 
 
Overtime (SCS 82, PAC 78)
• Steinauer's reign didn't stop in regulation as she powered the Owls through overtime collecting nine of the teams' 11 points, while adding two of her four steals.
• With this 82-78 overtime win over Pace, the Owls clinch a Northeast 10 playoff berth.

Kiana Steinauer collected her NCAA Division II and conference-leading 23rddouble-double of the year eclipsing a career-high in points with 34. Her previous career-high was set against Concordia on Dec. 19, 2018 when she had 33.
• With 34 points, Steinauer has hit 500-plus points this season, tying Julie Dale's 1988-89 single-season record of 513, which is seventh all-time in SCSU history.
• Steinauer is the only person in NE10 and SCSU history to collect 400-plus points and 400-plus rebounds in a single season. 
• With four steals, Steinauer moved into first place in the NE10 in season steals with 84, while becoming tied for fourth with Anabel Perdomo's 2004-05 single season steals record. 
• The Owls had three players in double-digit points led by Steinauer who had 34, Wheeler who had 23 and Ryder who had 11.
