Baseball Tops Molloy, 15-5

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated Molloy, 15-5, in a non-conference matchup at Griffith Field at The Ripken Experience facility in Myrtle Beach, Fla. The Owls improve to 2-4 while Molloy drops to 0-3 on the year.

Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) was 4-for-5 with five RBI, giving him two games through the Owls first six in which he's driven in five runs. He also stole four bases in the game. Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) was 3-for-6 with four RBI while Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) drove in thre runs and scored two more. Nolan Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) had a 3-for-4 day with two RBI and three runs scored while Anthony Zambito (Windsor, Conn.) scored a team-leading four runs in the Owls victory. Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) also collected three hits.

On the mound, freshman Brandon White (Simsbury, Conn.) picked up the win in his first career start after giving up five runs – four earned – on eight hits over six innings. Brendan Ebert (Waterford, Conn.) pitched three innings of one-hit, scoreless ball for the save.

The Owls put three runs on the board in the second, keyed by a two-run single by Lamberti. Cloutier knocked hom Zambito in the fourth before Lamberti drove Zambito home in the sixth with the go-ahead run. Criscuolo also drove in Cloutier in the inning to give the Owls a two-run lead through the sixth.

Palmer and Lamberti both drove in two runs in the seventh while Cloutier, Palmer and Criscuolo also drove in runs in the eighth.

Notes
  • Lamberti's four stolen bases against Molloy make him the first player since 2015 when Matt Burns swiped four against Mercy on Feb. 20.
  • After also driving in five runs against Florida National on Feb. 16, Lamberti becomes the first place since Greg Zullo in 2017 to record two five-RBI games in the same season.
  • Redahan now owns a team-leading five-game hitting streak
