Baseball Falls To Wilmington, 16-2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team lost to Wilmington (Del.), 16-2, in a non-conference matchup played at The Polo Grounds at The Ripken Experience complex in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Owls move to 3-5 on the year while Wilmington improves to 4-0.

Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) was 1-for-3 with his first career home run while Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) was 1-for-3 with a run scored while Eric Ross (Montville, Conn.) was 1-for-1 off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Palmer led off the game with a single up the middle. After Anthony Zambito (Ridgewood, N.J.) bunted him over, Criscuolo lined a single to right field to score Palmer and give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
  • The Owls tacked on another run in the top of the second when Redahan connected for his first career home run.
  • From there, it was all Wilmington as they cut the Owls lead in half in the bottom half of the inning, before taking the lead in the third, 3-2, en route to 16 unanswered runs including a pair of home runs by Matt Stepnoski.
NOTES
  • Redahan is currently riding a team-best seven-game hitting streak to open the year. The sophomore is currently hitting .385 (10-26) on the season.
  • Palmer also extends his streak to six games while Criscuolo and Redahan have both reached base safely in each game this season.
