Owls Fall To Franklin Pierce, 5-2 and 6-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team lost a pair of Northeast 10 Conference games against Franklin Pierce, 5-2 and 6-3, in a doubleheader that saw both games go extra innings. The Owls drop to 9-12 overall and open NE10 play at 0-2 while FPU improves to 9-9 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Owls received solid pitching in both games, as freshman Brandon White (Simsbury, Conn.) struck-out eight batters over seven innings and exited the first game after seven strong innings. White gave up two unearned runs in his first start at home and left with a no-decision. Tommy Hughes (Newington, Conn.) was strong in relief but was saddled with the loss in Game 1 after giving up a lead-off homer in the 11th inning. Hughes scattered three hits while striking out six in three innings.

In the second game, Ronnie Rossomando (Stratford, Conn.) gave up three runs over 7 1/3 while striking out eight. Joe Nemchek (Trumbull, Conn.) pitched 2/3 of scoreless ball before handing it over to Quantique White (New London, Conn.), who was solid for three innings before giving up three runs in the top of the 11th.

At the plate in the first game, Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) was 3-for-4 with a RBI while Anthony Zambito (Ridgewood, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Mac Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.) drove in a run, while Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) scored one.

In the second game, Nolan Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) was 3-for-5 with two RBI while Redahan also drove in the game-tying run. Palmer also had three stolen bases in the second game.
