Owls Fall To UNH In NE10 Championship Semifinals

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball squad was defeated by the University of New Haven in the semifinal round of the Northeast 10 conference tournament, 87-66. The Owls fall to 19-12 overall, while the Chargers improve to 20-8 overall.
 
C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) led the Owls in scoring with 26 points, while shooting 6-for-12 from beyond the arc. Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) recorded 12 points, while tallying five assists and three rebounds. Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) registered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Fueled by stellar three-point shooting from the Chargers offense, they led the scoring for the majority of the first half going 5-for-9 compared to the Owls 4-for-15.
  • Roy Kane Jr. led Chargers as he scored 14 points in the first allowing New Haven to go into halftime up 41-30.
  • The Owls went on an 8-1 run with 8:04 to go to come within five-points of the Chargers lead. New Haven countered with a 7-0 run to increase their lead to 14 with two minutes left to play in the game.
  • New Haven went 21-for-23 from the charity stripe to seal the 87-66 win in the Semifinal round of the NE10 tournament securing a spot in the NE10 Championship on Saturday.
 
FACTS
  • Wallace registered his third double-double of the season and his second in the last two games.
  • The Owls hit on 12-of-36 from three-point range, giving them their 11th game in the last 13 outings with double-digit three-point totals. It also marks the fifth time in their last five games in which they have hit 12 three-pointers.
  • Seaforth hit 25-plus points for the second-straight game. Seaforth sparked the Owls with 21 second-half points.
