NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-12 decision against Stonehill College. The Owls fall to 2-15 overall and 1-12 in the Northeast 10, while the Skyhawks improve to 9-8 and 6-7 in the Northeast 10. Alexandra Takacs,
Brianna Grande and
Samantha Cozzolino.
Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) led the Owls offense with six goals on eight shots, two assists and six draw controls.
Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.) collected one goals on two shots and had one assist, while teammate
Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) tallied two goals on five shots in the game.
Alexandra Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) registered 12 saves and allowed nine goals through 37 minutes of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls came out red hot scoring three goals to take the lead. Two goals from Cozzolino and one from Stephanie Seymour (North Branford, Conn.).
- After Stonehill got on the board the Owls scored three unanswered goals; Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.) scored the first off an assist from Cozzolino, then Rowe found the back of the net, assisted by Cozzolino and Cozzolino scored on a feed from Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) to increase their lead to 6-1.
- The Skyhawks countered with seven-straight goals to take the 8-6 lead into halftime.
- Southern opened the scoring in the second half with three straight goals reclaiming the lead, 9-8. Chase scored on a free position shot, then Cozzolino notched two back-to-back goals with an assist from Chase.
- Stonehill outscored the Owls 3-1 over the next six minutes to hold an 11-10 lead. Cozzolino tallied her sixth goal of the game to tie the game at 11 all, however the Skyhawks scored three unanswered goals to reclaim the lead, 14-11. Kelly Jagodzinski (Stamford, Conn.) tallied a goal to come within two of Stonehill but were unable to tie the game before time ran out.

- Hailey Gordon extends her points streak to four-games, recording one goal in the game against Stonehill.
- Samantha Cozzolino tallied eight points today (six goals and two assists). The last time she had eight or more points was on March 24, 2019 against Saint Michael's when she registered nine points.

- With her six goals, Cozzolino registered her 26th hat trick of her collegiate career and 11th of the season. She leads the Owls with 52 goals and 19 assists for the 2019 season.
- Alexandra Takacs tallied 12 saves in net today, the last time the senior had 12 saves was on April 12, 2017 against Pace University.
