COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball team swept Saint Michael's College, 7-0 and 5-3 in Colchester. The Owls improve to 6-22 overall and 4-10 in the Northeast 10, while the Purple Knights drop to 2-16 overall and 1-7 in the Northeast 10.
Jayden Delaporta (Mystic, Conn.) went 3-for-7 on the day including her first collegiate home run, while tallying four RBI and one run scored.
Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) went 3-for-8 with three stolen bases and one run.
Liz DeRosa (Hudson, N.H.) went 3-for-6 with four RBI and one run scored.
Jazmyn Martinez (Middletown, N.Y.) pitched her sixth complete game and collected her first save of the season, while
Kailey Westington (Ridgefield, Conn.) picked up her first win of the season.
Alexa Bacoulis (Monroe, Conn.) went 3-for-4 in game two, tallying two RBI and two runs, while
Ally Petrella (Willington, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Game 1 – (Southern Connecticut 7, Saint Mike's 0)
- After a scoreless two innings, the Owls struck first in the top of the third inning as Maria Zecena (Stamford, Conn.) scored on a fly-out to give Southern Connecticut a 1-0 lead.
- With a two-and-two count, Delaporta blasted a three-run home run to left field in the fourth inning, increasing the Owls lead to four.
- Zecena scored her second run of the game off a DeRosa single through the left side. Delaporta kept her hot streak rolling as she singled to left field to score Buscetto and Bacoulis, 6-0. She added another hit through the left side that scored Bacoulis and extended the Owls lead to 7-0.
- The Purple Knights were unable to solve the Owls' pitcher, Jazmyn Martinez, who pitched all seven innings, struck out four in 26 batters faced and collected her fourth win of the season.
Game 2 – (Southern Connecticut 5, Saint Mike's 3)
- Bacoulis got the Owls on the board in the first inning, scoring on a tag-up, 1-0. Zecena singled to the third baseman in the second inning that scored Westington, 2-0.
- Bacoulis stayed hot as she hit a two RBI double to left center that scored Zecena and Petrella. The next play, Dumont collected an RBI in the fifth inning by singling up the middle to score Bacoulis.
- Saint Michael's scored their first runs of the day off a two RBI double to center field, 5-2. The Purple Knights hit a solo home run to left center in the bottom of the seventh to put them within two of the Owls, 5-3.
- Westington, who pitched 5.1 innings, collects her first win of the season, while Martinez, who came in relief in the seventh inning, collects the seventh save of her collegiate career and the first this season.

- Jayden Delaporta hit the first home run of her collegiate career in game one.
- This is the first time this season that the Owls took both games of a doubleheader.
- Game one was Jazmyn Martinez's sixth complete game pitched this season, surpassing her freshman year season total, where she pitched five games of seven-or-more innings. She also collected her first save of the season in game two.
- Jacqueline Dumont leads the team in RBI with 18. She is also seventh in the Northeast 10 in RBI and tied for sixth in home runs with 3.
- Buscetto added three stolen bases on the day. Buscetto is second in stolen bases in the NE10, with 17 on the year. She ranks third in hits in the NE10 with 31 and tied for 10th in runs with 16.
