Softball Falls To Adelphi In Two Games

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball squad fell to Adelphi University in both games of their doubleheader, 5-0 and 8-0 at the Janet L. Ficke Field in Garden City. The Owls fall to 6-26 and 4-12 in the Northeast 10, while the Panthers improve to 18-15 overall and 10-4 in the NE10.

Alexa Bacoulis (Monroe, Conn.), who went 3-for-6 and Ivy Geloso (Beacon Falls, Conn.), who went 2-for-5 on the day were the offense-generators for the Owls in both losses. Freshman Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) chipped some offense in during game one as she went 2-for-3.

Game 1 – (Adelphi 5, Southern Connecticut 0)
  • After three scoreless innings, Adelphi jumped on the board scoring one run in the fourth inning off a single to right field.
  • On a fielder's choice in the fifth inning, the Panthers were able to squeeze another run, 2-0.
  • Adelphi hit a solo home run to center field in the sixth to extend their lead to three before adding another two runs off an inside-the-park home run four batters later. Their steady offense through the second half of play earned them the shutout victory in game one.
  • Jazmyn Martinez (Middletown, N.Y.) pitched 5.2 innings, striking out four in 28 batters faced.

Game 2 – (Adelphi 8, Southern Connecticut 0)
  • Adelphi struck first in the third inning of game two with a Nicoletta Cuccio single to left field, 1-0. Two batters later, the Panthers added a two-run home run to take a three-run lead.
  • The Panthers added three more fourth inning runs and their final two runs of the game in the sixth to take a commanding eight-run lead.
  • Adelphi's balanced attack allowed them to capture their second-straight victory of the day as they went on to win 8-0 in six innings.

Notes
  • Ivy Geloso and Alexa Bacoulis were the only two Owls to tally hits in both games of the doubleheader.
  • With three hits today, Bacoulis extended her hitting streak to six games, surpassing her longest hitting-streak this season, which was between March 24 and March 28 when she had 10 hits in five games.
  • Geloso is riding a mini hitting-streak of two games. Her longest hitting streak this season was three games in the season series versus American International College.
