NE10 SW No. 4 Baseball Falls To NE10 NE No. 3 Merrimack In NE10 Tournament Matchup

ONONDAGA, N.Y.  -  The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team lost a Northeast 10 Baseball Championship tournament matchup against Merrimack, 8-1, at Onondaga Community College in Onandaga, N.Y. With the loss, the Owls will hope to hold off elimination with their matchup against the loser of the other tournament matchup between Le Moyne and Franklin Pierce.  
 
Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) was 2-for-4 with two doubles while scoring the Owls' only run. Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) was also 2-for-4 while Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) drove in Criscuolo. On the mound, freshman Brandon White (Simsbury, Conn.) took the loss after allowing six runs – four earned – over 6 2/3.   

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • In the bottom of the 1st, Merrimack's Tommy Joyce worked a walk and then stole second base before scoring from second a two-out single by Matt Ronai to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.  
  • Merrimack pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 2nd inning after Kurtis Stadnicki doubled before scoring on another error by the Owls. The Warriors made it 3-0 in the 4th when Thomas Crowley singled to short and moved to second on the Owls' fourth error of the game. Crowley then moved to third on a ground-out before scoring on a chopper to first.  
  • In the 5th, NE10 Co-Player of the Year Jon Porricelli jumped on a fastball from Brandon White and crushed a solo home run to deep left field as Merrimack took a 4-0 lead.  
  • The Owls got on the board in the 6th when Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) lined a one-out double to the left-center field gap before scoring on Connor Redahan's (Greenwich, Conn.) line drive to left field for a RBI single.  
  • In the bottom of the 6thStadnicki singled to lead-off the inning before being bunted over and advancing to third on Mike Jamele's single and scoring on a wild pitch to give Merrimack a four-run lead, 5-1.  
  • Stadnicki would drive in Michael Golankiewicz in the 7th to give Merrimack a 6-1 lead.  

NOTES: 
 
  • Through two NE10 tournament games, Tyler Criscuolo is batting .556 (5-for-9) with two RBI and three runs scored.
