How It Happened
  • Ednaija Lassiter (Boston, Mass.) tallied the first points of the game with a three-pointer from Wheeler. The Owls held the lead until 4:22, when the Panthers tied it at nine. Adelphi went on a 6-0 run, but a pair of layups from Wheeler and a good three-pointer from Fressle gave the Owls a brief lead. The Panthers finished the quarter on a 5-0 run and up four points.
  • Adelphi started the second quarter with two back-to-back baskets, but Southern's freshman guard Amani Boston (Dorchester, Mass.) came out firing and accounted for seven of the Owls 14 points in the quarter. Shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, she helped put Southern within two points of the nationally-ranked Panther's at halftime.
  • The Panthers' notched 29 points in the third frame and shot 62.5% while holding the Owls to a 13-point quarter.
  • Adelphi began the fourth quarter up by 17 and eventually held their largest lead of the game with 5:55 remaining up by 25 points. Their 29-point third quarter push proved to be the difference-maker as the Panthers went on to win 77-54 and remain undefeated.
