Men's Basketball Falls To Saint Anselm

MANSHESTER, N.H. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball fell to Saint Anselm, 97-82, in the final Northeast 10 Conference crossover matchup of the season at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in Manchester, N.H. The Owls drop to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in the NE10, while the Hawks improve to 12-8 overall and 8-5 in the NE10.
 
Four Owls scored in double-figures, led by junior C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) and his team-high 21 points and five made three-pointers. Senior Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, Wisc.) II scored 16 points and went 7-13 from the field, while junior Greg Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 15 points went a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) scored 12 points and shot 5-8 from the field and freshman Levar Allen (Richmond, Va.) scored nine points and added a career-high eight assists.
 
How It Happened
  • Southern got off to a quick start, taking a 13-7 lead in the first half with 16:09 remaining as Seaforth made two early three-pointers.
  • Saint Anselm went on a 25-9 run to take their largest lead of the first half, 32-22, with 8:42 remaining. Southern went on a run of of their own, outscoring Saint Anselm 15-2 over the next 3:30 to take a 37-34 lead with 5:13 remaining after Seaforth made a three-pointer to give the Owls the lead. Saint Anselm would then take a 42-41 lead into halftime.
  • Both offensives came out hot out of the break, with Southern able to tie the game at 58-58 by scoring 17 points in the first 5:20 of the half. Boissard scored eight points during the stretch. 
  • Both teams remained almost even over the next six minutes, but Saint Anselm held a slim 73-70 lead with 8:14 remaining. From there, Saint Anselm outscored the Owls 24-12 to end the game to win, 97-82


Notes
  • Seaforth scored 20 points in a game for the fourth time this season, and the 11th time in his collegiate career. 
  • Seaforth recorded five three-pointers in a game for the eighth time in his career and the third time this season. 
  • Jones has made 23 of his last 25 free throws, dating back to Jan. 8 against Adelphi. 
  • Adams II has scored in double-figures in 14 of his 16 games played this season.
  • Over the last two games, Boissard is 14-24 from the field and 5-10 from three-point range, scoring a total of 33 points. 
  • Allen's eight assists were a new career-high, and tied a season-high for a Southern player in a game this season. Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) had eight assists against Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 14 and against Franklin Pierce on Jan. 22.
