How It Happened
  • Wheeler opened the game for the Owls on fire, going on a personal 7-0 run in two minutes. The Setters came within three of the Owls lead, but Southern Connecticut finished the second half of the quarter outscoring Pace 8-4.
  • Both squads traded chances through the first five minutes of play in the second quarter. The Setters offense ignited for a 9-2 run at the 2:02 mark, allowing them to even out the scoring with the Owls heading into the half.
  • The first five minutes of the third quarter saw both teams score five apiece, keeping it deadlocked at 33 with 5:04 remaining. The scoring remained tight for the remainder of the quarter, but Pace held a narrow two possession lead going into the final stretch. Fressle scored eight of the Owls nine third quarter points.
  • Southern Connecticut opened the fourth quarter on an 11-4 run, courtesy of Fressle, who notched all 11 points. With 2:36 remaining, Pace made a layup in the paint, which was countered with a Kellner three at the 1:33 mark that made it 50-47. A trio of timely free throws from Pace at the one-minute and 30-second marks sent the game into overtime.
  • The Setters dominated the overtime period with six of their eight overtime points coming from free throws, which allowed them to capture the five-point victory at home.
