Baseball Tops Dominican, 14-13

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team wrapped up its four-game, three-day weekend at The Ripken Experience with a wild 14-13 win against Dominican. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-2 while Dominican drops to 0-4.

Anthony Zambito (Ridgewood, N.J.) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four stolen bases in the Owls' win while Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Jack Drewry (Wolcott, Conn.) and Peyton Farina (North Haven, Conn.) both hit three-run homers in the Owls' win.

On the mound, 2019 Northeast 10 Pitching Rookie of the Year Brandon White (Simsbury, Conn.) made his season debut. The second-year Owl gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits over five innings pitched while striking out 10. Tyshaun Diaz (Holyoke, Mass.) picked up the save after pitching the final 2/3.

NOTES
  • Zambito's four stolen bases marks the second time in his career that he's accomplished the feat, with the last time coming against St. Rose on Mar. 30, 2019. Nick Lamberti was the last Owl to do it on Apr. 19, 2019.
  • Zambito, DeMartino and Mike Ferrett (Hamden, Conn.) all extended their hitting streaks to three games.
  • Drewry's home run was his second three-run blast in his last four games. He currently leads the Owls with eight RBI. His two home runs also leads the Owls, as does his six walks.
  • Ferrett has driven in two runs in each of his last three games.
  • Farina's three-run homer was his first collegiate hit.
  • White's 10 strikeouts are a career-best and the most since he struckout eight against Franklin Pierce on Mar. 24, 2019.
  • With Zach Rodgers' 10 strikeouts against Mercy on Friday, White and Rodgers give the Owls their first pitching duo to strike out 10 batters in a game since Pat Egan and A.J. Turnier in 2015.
