Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 1 Nationally Ranked Le Moyne

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team fell to No. 1 nationally ranked Le Moyne, 18-4, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field on Sunday, March 8, 2020. The Owls fall to 2-3 overall, and 0-2 in the NE10, while the Dolphins improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NE10.

Junior Hailey Gordon (Niantic, Conn.), senior Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.)sophomore Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.)and freshman Julia Shapiro (Easton, Conn. ) all scored for the Owls, while Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) and Steph Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) added an assist. Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) added 12 saves as the goalkeeper. 


First Half
  • Le Moyne scored 13 goals in the opening 30 minutes. 
Second Half
  • Gordon got the Owls on the board on a free-position shot with 23:24 remaining.
  • Chase then scored the Owls second consecutive goal off an assist from Rowe with 21 minutes remaining.
  • Takacs scored the Owls third goal with 13 minutes to go, with Seymour contributing with an assist on the play. 
  • Shapiro capped off the Owls scoring with two minutes to go on a free-position shot. 

Notes
  • Gordon and Takacs have scored in every game for the Owls this season. 
  • Gordon has scored in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.
  • Shapiro scored her fourth career goal, and has scored in back-to-back games. 
  • Chase scored her second goal of the season and the 18th of her collegiate career. 
  • Rowe has recorded a point in every game of her collegiate career; 22 consecutive games. 
  • Shapiro scored her third career goal. 
  • Caroline White (Madison, Conn.) tied a career-high with three draw controls.
