Southern Connecticut Athletic Communications will be featuring student-athletes from various teams throughout the remainder of the spring semester and into the summer months. Next up is SCSU Track and Field sophomore Bernardo Mbaya (Waterbury, Conn.). Mbaya was on a men's track and field squad that won two championships just a season ago as the Owls captured their third-straight Northeast 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship and their second-straight NEICAAA New England Outdoor Championship title in 2019.

What professional athlete inspires you? Why?	Jimmy butler because of all the adversity and challenges he had to face growing up are similar to mine and seeing someone make his situation into a dream come true is what inspires me.
Why did you choose Southern Connecticut? What set it apart from the other schools you visited?	I picked southern because of its welcoming community and their will to win
