10/4/2021 2:04:00 PM

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Southern Connecticut State University football graduate student Kwadir Delgado-McIntyre (Hamden, Conn.) was named the Northeast 10 Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week as well as the Special Teams Player of the Week. Delgado-McIntyre led to the Owls to a 23-7 win against American Internation on Friday, Oct. 1 at Jess Dow Field.

Delgado-McIntyre had a career game in the Owls' win against the Yellow Jackets, matching his career-best with two interceptions in the game. His first interception came late in the first half with the game tied, 7-7. He then picked off his second pass on the Owls' 23-yard line that halted another Yellow Jackets drive. He also broke-up two more passes, both deep in the Owls' defensive zone, and returned two punts for a total of 60 yards, including a 31-yard return that was the longest of the season for the Owls.

Delgado-McIntyre, who graduated in 2021 and returned after receiving another year of competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic cancellation last year, currently leads all Owls' defensive backs in tackles with 28, while ranking third overall on the roster. He's also second on the team with four tackles-for-loss and leads the team in passes defended with three break-ups and two interceptions. He also forced one fumble this season.

This is the second defensive player of the week award in Delgado-McIntyre's career after also receiving the honor in 2018. He's also the second player to earn the honor this season after Richard Williams, Jr. won the award during the first week of the season.
