NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Kelsey Burr (Wallingford, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to help the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeat Pace, 2-1, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the NE10, while the Setters fall to 3-4-3 overall and 1-4-3 in the NE10.
In addition to her go-ahead goal, Burr assisted on Southern's first goal of the game in the fourth minute to
Nadine Hilkert (Baden-Württemberg, Germany), which gave Southern a 1-0 lead. Pace scored the equalizer goal during the 56th minute.
Allie Smith (Danbury, Conn.) recorded five saves in 90 minutes.
Notes
- Burr has scored in two consecutive games for the first time in her collegiate career, as she also recorded a goal Oct. 2 against Le Moyne.
- Burr's goal was the fifth of her career, and her assist was her first of the season and third of her career.
- Burr is now tied for the team lead in goals with Julia Alicea (Columbia, Conn.), Kaitlyn D'Amico (Middletown, Conn.), and Victoria Vera (Plainview, N.Y.) with two.
- Hilkert's goal was her first of the season and third of her career. She scored two goals during the 2019 season.
- Smith recorded her fifth game this season with at least five saves.
