Field Hockey Defeats Molloy in Season Finale, 3-1

SEAFORD, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team defeated Molloy College, 3-1, at Cedar Crest Park. The Owls finish the season 3-14 overall and 3-11 in the NE10, while the Lions finish 0-16 overall and 0-14.

How It Happened
  • Brianna Caffrey (Hampton, Conn.) struck first for the Owls early in the first quarter as Kaitlyn Bourque (Enfield, Conn.) fed it to Caffrey in the slot and backhanded it to the lower right corner.
  • Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.) picked up the Owls second goal from Kiley Jackson (Cheshire, Conn.) with 6:35 remaining in the third quarter that put them up by two. Molloy responded a minute later with a goal as Alexa Dennis put one past the keeper and cut the Owls lead in half.
  • In the fourth quarter, Caffrey tipped in a shot from Grace Conselyea (Milford, Pa.), who released from the top of the circle on a feed from Shaw at the insert on a corner.
 
Notes
  • Brianna Shaw recorded her third goal and sixth assist of the season. Shaw also had a single-game season-high in shots with eight and shots on goal with five. She also picked up her first career game-winning goal.
  • Brianna Caffrey notched her third and fourth goals of the season. Caffrey also had a single-game season-high six shots.
  • Kaitlyn Bourque picked up her third assist of the season on Caffrey's first goal.
  • Grace Conselyea picked up her fourth assist of the season on Caffrey's second goal.
  • Kiley Jackson recorded her second career assist on Shaw's goal.
  • Alyssa Haskins had a single-game season-high in shots with four.
  • Megan Habakangas had two shots on goal.
  • Janelle Ward made five saves for the Owls.
  • The Owls had a season-high 28 shots and season-high 17 shots on goal.
