Softball Falls to Saint Rose in Regular Season Finale

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team fell to the College of Saint Rose, 5-2 and 6-3. The Owls move to 14-14 overall and 11-13 in the Northeast 10, while the Golden Knights move to 6-18 overall and 6-18 in the NE10.

Game 1 Highlights
  • Cailey Botteon (Moodus, Conn.) went 1-for-3 including a run and a walk.
  • Morgan Tuscano (Wallingford, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
  • Jaqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Game 2 Highlights
Game 1: Saint Rose 5, Southern Connecticut 2
  • Jacqueline Dumont doubled in the first inning scoring Botteon.
  • Saint Rose responded in the bottom half of the winning with a two-run home run.
  • Morgan Tuscano's single in the fourth inning tied the game at two for Southern Connecticut.
  • The Golden Knights picked up three runs in the fifth inning off a pair of singles and a double. 
  • Saint Rose's fifth inning push was enough to capture victory in game one.

Game 2: Saint Rose 6, Southern Connecticut 3
  • Southern Connecticut struck first for the third-straight game of this series with Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) scoring on a groundout.
  • Saint Rose scored the equalizer in the bottom half of the inning on the tag from a sacrifice fly.
  • Lauryn Zubia (San Fernando, Calif.) singled in the second inning scoring Emily Lange.
  • DeRosa stretched the Owls lead in the third inning scoring on a groundout.
  • The fifth inning, much like game one's fifth inning for Saint Rose, saw a surge of runs. The Golden Knights strung together five runs on four hits, taking a three-run lead over Southern Connecticut.
  • Saint Rose's second-straight fifth inning surge was the difference maker as they went on to capture the last game of the regular season for both squads.

On Deck
Currently sitting in third in the Southwest Division, the Owls will await to see who they draw in the opening round of the Northeast 10 Conference Tournament following the final two games of the New Haven versus Pace series on Sunday, May 2. First round games are slated for Tuesday, May 4.
