SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University Men's Track and Field Team won their fourth consecutive and 17th overall Northeast 10 Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 7, 2021. Southern became the first school in NE10 history to eclipse the 300-point mark, as they scored 301.5 points on their way to victory. The previous record was set by the Owls in 2006, when they scored 262.50 points. Southern scored 125.5 more points than second place finisher American International, who scored 176 points.
Southern crowned 11 Conference Champions in individual events.
Nigel Green (Shirley, N.Y.) led the way for the Owls, as he was named Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Championship Meet.
Individual Champions
- Green won the 100-Meter Dash Championship with a time of 10.73.
- Green also won the 200-Meter Dash Championship with a time of 21.49.
- Sachin Manning (Bridgeport, Conn.) won the 400-Meter Hurdles Championship with a time of 54.11.
- Connor Shannahan (Enfield, Conn.) won the 5000-Meter Championship with a time of 14:42.83
- The team of Christ N'Dabian (Bridgeport, Conn.), Tariq Phillips (Waterbury, Conn.), Jaylynn Cundiff (Brockton, Mass.), and Green won the 4x100-Meter Relay Championship with a time of 41.43, the fastest time by the Owls this season.
- The team of Manning, N'Dabian, Milan Spisek (Easton, Conn.), and Green won the 4x400-Meter Relay Championship with a time of 3:13.27, the fastest time by the Owls this season.
- Turner Kelly (Amityville, N.Y.) won the Shot Put Championship with a throw of 16.96 meters.
- Oghenefejiro Onakpoma (Naugatuck, Conn.) won the Triple Jump Championship with a leap of 15.14 meters.
- Spisek won the Pole Vault Championship with a mark of 4.90 meters.
- Jordan Davis (Wallingford, Conn.) won the Javelin Throw Championship with a mark of 62.39 meters.
- Mekhi Barnett (Stamford, Conn.) won the Discus Championship with a mark of 47.12 meters.
Decathlon, Day 2
- Shane Smith (Pawcatuck, Conn.) finished in second place overall with 5549 points.
- In the 110-meter hurdles, Smith finished in third place with a time of 16.71.
- In the discus throw, Smith finished in second place with a throw of 32.15 meters.
- In the javelin throw, Smith finished in third place with a mark of 46.34 meters.
- In the 1500-meter run, Smith finished in first place with a time of 4:36.93.
Noteworthy Track Event Finishes
- Phillips finished in fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12 and second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.24.
- Osaretin Osagie (Norwich, Conn.) took second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88. He also finished in second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 54.85.
- Christ N'Dabian (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished in second place in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 22.17.
- Manning finished in fourth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.94.
- Carlos Flores (New Haven, Conn.) finished in sixth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.45.
- Terrell Patterson (Waterbury, Conn.) finished in second place in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:50.97. Dan Perusina (Hamden, Conn.) finished in sixth place with a time of 4:01.06. Dylan McGuire (Preston, Conn.) finished in 10th place with a time of 4:08.93.
- Gavin Woodward (New Hartford, Conn.) finished in second place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:33.31.
- Chris LeBeau (Bristol, Conn.) finished in second place in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:55.17. Jake Mattei (Bethany, Conn.) finished in fourth place with a time of 15:16.66. Stephen Fengler (Wallingford, Conn.) finished in seventh place with a time of 15:29.88.
- The 4x800-meter relay team of Flores, Perusina, Nolan Scott (Branford, Conn.), and Patterson finished in second place with a time of 7:58.09.

- Southern had five top-five finishers in the pole vault after Spisek, as Jack Brown (Lyndon Center, Vt.) finished in second place with a mark of 4.75 meters, Oliver Hayes (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished in third place with a mark of 4.45 meters, Zach Burleigh (Southington, Conn.) finished in fourth place with a mark of 4.15 meters, and Nathaniel Llanos (Danbury, Conn.) finished in fifth place with a mark of 4.15 meters.
- Cameron Belton (Baltic, Conn.) finished in second place in the shot put with a throw of 16.12 meters. Bernardo Mbaya (Waterbury, Conn.) finished in fourth place with a throw of 15.03 meters. Jacob Meadows (New Milford, Conn.) finished in fifth place with a throw of 14.70 meters. Barnett finished in seventh place with a throw of 14.86 meters.
- Jaylynn Cundiff (Brockton, Mass.) finished in second place in the long jump with a leap of 6.98 meters. Philip Quaye (Manchester, Conn.) finished in sixth place with a leap 6.66 meters.
- Mbaya finished in third place in the discus with a personal-best throw of 44.73 meters. Meadows finished in fifth place with a throw of 41.35 meters.
- Jason Sawicki (West Haven, Conn.) was tied for third place in the high jump with a personal-best leap of 1.92 meters. Dylan Torok (Monroe, Conn.) finished in fifth place with a leap of 1.87 meters,
- Dan Labbadia (Berlin, Conn.) finished in fourth place in the javelin throw with a mark of 53.40 meters. Nevan Burke (Greenwich, Conn.) finished in sixth place with a throw of 50.74 meters. Jonah Gosnay (Danbury, Conn.) finished in eighth place with a throw of 48.73 meters.
