Football Falls To Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University football team lost a non-conference matchup at Stonehill, 54-21. With the loss, the Owls drop to 1-1 on the season while the Skyhawks improve to 2-0 on the year.

Jackson Ostrowsky (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) was 25-for-31 for 271 yards with one touchdown pass. Ostrowsky also rushed for a touchdown in the game. Tylon Pappalo had five receptions for 123 yards and a 56-yard touchdown while TJ Gardner accounted for the Owls' other score on a one-yard rush.

On defense, Kwadir Delgado-McIntyre (Hamden, Conn.) led the Owls with six tackles while Ben Eichman and Richard Williams, Jr. both had five. Hasan Dominick and Cameron Belton both recorded a sack in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Owls got out to a slow start as Stonehill scored the game's first 20 points on two of Justin Felder's three touchdowns in the first half and an 83-yard touchdown reception. After being backed up to their 10-yard line, Southern used an 11-play, 90-yard drive, highlighted by a 56-yard reception by Tylon Pappalo, that ended with a touchdown run by Jackson Ostrowsky to cut Stonehill's lead to 20-7.
  • Felder scored his third touchdown of the day on a 1-yard sweep after runs of 20 and 17 to push the Skyhawks lead to 27-7. With less than two minutes to play before halftime, Ostrowsky needed just five plays to score. Anthony Ligi was stopped for two before powering for a 12-yard run. Ostrowsky then fired a strike across the middle to Izaiah Sanders to set the Owls up on their own 48 yard line. Ostrowsky then connected with Pappalo, who outran most of the Stonehill defense after the coach, to cut Stonehill's lead to 13 points, 27-14, heading into halftime.
  • In the third quarter, Southern cut into the Stonehill lead again when the Owls offense marched down the field on an 11-play, 83-yard drive. Ostrowsky fed Pappalo for a 13-yard reception before TJ Gardner caught a pass in the flat and took it 26 yards. After an 11-yard pass to Tye Hodge put the Owls on the Stonehill 8-yard line, Gardner carried the ball three times, the final a 1-yard run that ended with a leap into the end zone.
  • The Owls trailed by 12 points, 33-21, but it was all Stonehill the rest of the way as the Skyhawks rattled off 21 unanswered points.

NOTES

  • Tylon Pappalo, with receptions of 56 and 52 yards, became the first player since Willie Epps against Pace on Oct. 6, 2012, to record two receptions of 50 yards or more in the same game.
