Women's Basketball Drops Decision to Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Assumption University, 76-48, at Laska Gymnasium. With the loss, the Owls fell to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the Northeast 10, while the Greyhounds improved to 7-8 overall and 4-6 in the NE10.

Graduate student Jessica Fressle (Levittown, N.Y.) led Southern with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and a block. Sophomore Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) had nine points, six rebounds, and a block, while senior Delaney Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) had nine points, six rebounds, and a steal.

How It Happened
  • Assumption jumped out of the gates with an 11-4 run. Southern responded with a 10-4 run of their own to close out the first down by one.
  • The Greyhounds offense exploded in the second quarter as they went on a 14-2 run and took a 14-point lead. Assumption continued to press and went into halftime with a 15-point lead over the Owls.
  • It was all Assumption again as the Greyhounds kicked off the third quarter with a 16-1 run. They led by 28 points at the end of the frame.
  • The fourth quarter saw a more balanced attack on both ends of the floor, but the Greyhounds' surges in the middle two frames helped lead them to a dominant victory at home.

Notes
  • Jessica Fressle notched her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds against Assumption.
  • Shauna Russell made her collegiate debut against Assumption.
