How It Happened

  • Adelphi set the pace in the opening minutes of the game with a dominating 13-2 run. The Panthers' strong start and surge led them to an 11-point lead at the end of the first ten of play.
  • The second quarter started much like the first ended as Adelphi jumped out with two three-pointers that gave them a 15-point lead, their largest of the game up until that point. Southern found their form with the one-two punch of Connors and Amalbert and responded with a 17-7 run. Heading into halftime, the Owls trailed the Panthers by one and erased the double-digit deficit Adelphi had posted.
  • It was all Adelphi to open the third quarter that saw them begin the second half of play on a 10-2 run to expand their lead to double-digits once again. After two traded baskets, Southern responded with seven unanswered points that cut the deficit to single-digits. The Owls attempted to catch the Panthers, but the third frame ended with a five-point lead for Adelphi.
  • In the final frame of action, the offense on both sides was on full display. After going back and forth with a handful of baskets, Southern powered through and outscored Adelphi, 7-4, to tie the game at 65 even. The Owls took their first lead of the game on a Jessica Fressle layup from Amalbert, but Adelphi countered with a 10-3 run to finish out the game and win by five.
