SCSU Football Tipped By Assumption, 28-14

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut football lost to Assumption, 28-14, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. With the loss, Southern drops to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the NE10 while Assumption improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. 

Tylon Papallo (Meriden, Conn.) led the Owls' with four catches for 106 yards including a 69-yard touchdown pass from Joe Bernard. Tim O'Shea (Southington, Conn.) also scored for the Owls on a six-yard touchdown pass from Marc Reali. Robert Nunez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led Southern with nine tackles while Richard Williams, Jr. (Wethersfield, Conn.) had eight. Quinton Haughton (East Hartford, Conn.) had a season-high seven tackles in the game while Joe Digello (Orange, Conn.) total six tackles and a sack. 

Southern fell behind early when Assumption's Berrell Neal capped a 13-play, 70-yard drive by Assumption with a one-yard touchdown run to give the Greyhounds a 7-0 lead.

Coming out of the half, O'Shea's first touchdown of the season came as the Owls' tight end streaked across the back of the end zone before Marc Reali hit him in the numbers to 10-7. Assumption's Nicholas Chodak's 27-yard field goal gave the Greyhounds a 10-7 lead heading into halftime. 

Coming out of the half, Chodak conveted on a 26-yard field goal to make it 13-7 followed by a one-yard touchdown run by Raekwon Washington, followed by a successful two-point conversion, to push Assumptions lead to 21-7. 

Bernard and Papallo had the play of the game when the Owls' quarterback spied Papallo one-on-one and hit him stride. Papallo took the pass 69 yards to pull Southern within a touchdown at 21-14. Assumption tacked on another touchdown in the fourth quarter to give them the two touchdown lead. 

Southern is back in action when they travel to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant on Saturday, Oct. 8.
