SCSU Field Hockey Blanks Saint Thomas Aquinas Behind Parent's Shutout

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut field hockey defeated Saint Thomas Aquinas, 3-0, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the win, Southern improves to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the NE10 while STAC drops to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Southern shrugged off an otherwise dominant first half display by Saint Thomas Aquinas, who outshot the Owls' 18-0 overall and 8-0 on shots-on-goal, to score three goals in the third quarter. Tori Geaglone (Enfield, Conn.) factored into all three of the Owls' goals with a pair of assistants and a goal off a penalty stroke.

Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) was the star of the show as the first-year Owl baffled the Spartans all afternoon. Parent recorded her fourth double-digit save performance of the year while stopping a season-high of 14. It was also her second shutout of the season after blanking American International on Sept. 30, 2022.

Late in the third, Geaglone carried the ball into the circle before splitting a pair of defenders to find the stick of Owls' leading scorer Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Rodriguez Ricchiuti took the pass from Geaglone to her left and then popped in a shot by STAC goalkeeper Jessie Hohenstein.

Minutes later, Geaglone struck for her second of the season off a penalty stroke to double Southern Connecticut's lead. Kiley Jackson (Cheshire, Conn.) picked off a pass just below midfield and handed the ball off to Geaglone. Geaglone found a seam up the middle of the field and zipped a pass to Abigail Kellerman (Fairfield, Conn.) in the circle. Kellerman spun away from the keeper and chipped a shot past a defender to give Southern a 3-0 lead.

Southern is back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 when it hosts Saint Michael's for its Homecoming Weekend matchup at 2 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
