Game Recap: Field Hockey |

SCSU Field Hockey Falls To Saint Michael's, 4-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut field hockey lost to Saint Michael's, 4-2, in a Northeast 10 Conference game at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. With the loss, Southern drops to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in NE10 play. Saint Michael's improves to 3-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti (Adrogue, Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tori Geaglone (Enfield, Conn.) both scored for the Owls while Kait Bourque (Enfield, Conn.) had an assist for Southern Connecticut.

The game was tied at halftime, 0-0, despite the Owls outshooting the Purple Knights, 12-1. The game tilted in favor of the Purple Knights in the second half, as they scored four times in the first 10:06 of the quarter. Bridgie Loughlin scored her first of two goals in the quarter less than two minutes into the third quarter, then Danielle Cummings picked up a rebound off a defensive save by Geaglone and popped in Saint Michael's second goal.

Erickson Richard took a pass from Addy Fenton and scored four minutes later to give Saint Michael's a 3-0 lead before Loughlin scored again off a pass from Rees Lord.

Late in fourth quarter, Rodriguez Ricchiuti got the Owls on the board when she picked up a loose ball in front of the cage and was able to punch it around Saint Michaels' Courtney Watt.

Less than two minutes later, it was Rodriguez Ricchiuti serving as the inserter on a corner, feeding Geaglone at the top of the circle. Geaglone played the ball to her right to Bourque, who touched a pass back to Geaglone. Geaglone picked up her second goal in as many games with a blast from in front of the cage that rattled home to cut the Purple Knights' lead in half.

Southern is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 22 when it travels to West Haven, Conn. to take on New Haven at 7 p.m. After a road trip to Worcester on Saturday, Oct. 22, the Owls return home to host Bentley on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
