SCSU Field Hockey Falls To New Haven, 5-1

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut field hockey lost to New Haven, 5-1, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in West Haven, Conn. With the loss, Southern drops to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the NE10 while New Haven improves to 7-5 overall and 7-0 in conference play.

New Haven got on the board first, scoring just under two minutes to go in the first quarter. Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) recorded two saves in the period as the Owls' defense limited the Chargers to just three shots on goal in the first frame.

In the second quarter, the Chargers scored twice before halftime and took a 3-0 lead into the break. Parent slammed the door after the Chargers' third goal, stopping three more shots before intermission.

Coming out of the break, New Haven had a pair of scoring opportunities that Parent denied before the field tilted in favor of the Owls. Midway through the third quarter, the Owls were awarded a corner, with Abby Kellerman (Fairfield, Conn.) starting the play. Kellerman fed Tori Geaglone (Enfield, Conn.), who moved the ball over to Grace Conselyea (Milford, Pa.). Conselyea zipped a pass to Brianna Caffrey (Hampton, Conn.) who deposited her third goal of the season to cut the Chargers' lead to two goal, 3-1.

Parent stopped all three shots-on-goal by the Chargers in the third quarter, but New Haven responded with two goals down the stretch.

Southern returns to action when it travels to Assumption on Saturday, Oct. 22 for a NE10 matchup set for a 1 p.m. start.
