SCSU Men's Soccer Falls To Le Moyne In NE10 Quarterfinals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 2-seeded Southern Connecticut men's soccer lost in the Northeast 10 Championship Quarterfinals, 3-2 in overtime, to No. 7-seeded Le Moyne at Jess Dow Field.

The Owls and Dolphins played a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes of play. Coming out of the half, Le Moyne converted off a corner to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Jack Goodrich sent a pass off the corner to the middle of the box where Tom Henne headed it on goal. Devin Juan was able to stop it but Noah Sperduto collected the rebound and popped it in to give the Dolphins a one-goal lead.

With 25 minutes to play, Le Moyne was awarded a free kick from 25 yards. Goodrich once-again put the shot on goal that Juan stopped but the rebound slid out in front of the Owls' net to Cameron Stuart who converted from close range.

Less than a minute later, Southern got on the board when Karim Said sent a perfect pass off a free kick to the middle of the box. Umberto Catale emerged from the pack and headed a shot past the Le Moyne keeper to cut the Dolphins lead in half.

With two minutes to play in regulation, Alex da Cunha settled the ball on the sideline across from the Owls bench before passing it to Arnold Signell at the top of the zone. Signell then sent a perfect pass to the opposite post where Said leaped above a Le Moyne defender to head it past the Dolphins' keeper to tie the game and send it to overtime.

With 90-seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Southern Connecticut was whistled for a foul without touching Le Moyne's Zach Goodrich, who fell while playing the ball in the box. The resulting penalty shot by Goodrich proved to be the difference in the game.
