NEW HAVEN, Conn. -Â The Southern Connecticut field hockey team were defeated by Mercy College, 3-1, at Jess Dow Field. With the loss, the Owls fell to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast 10, while the Mavericks improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NE10.

Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) recorded six saves in goal for the Owls.
Abbey Kellerman (Fairfield, Conn.) scored the lone goal for Southern, while
Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti (Adrogue, Bueno Aires, Argentina) recorded the assist.

How It Happened
- Mercy opened the scoring 3:16 into the second quarter with a spin on the left side of the goal from the Mavericks' Rieley Fitzgerald who was able to get it over to Alyssa Sacco for the touch-in.Â
- Southern netted the equalizer nine minutes later as Rodriguez Ricchiuti exploded into the circle and laid a small pass down for Kellerman to put away.Â
- The Mavericks scored the go-ahead goal in the third quarter off a corner as Rachel Palladino hit a shot from just inside the circle that landed at the stick of Kelly Rosenfeld and went in.Â
- In the final quarter of action, Mercy added another when Palladino hit a shot on goal that was scooped up and put away by Fitzgerald to seal the game.
