SCSU Women's Basketball Defeats Dominican, 68-60

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball defeated Dominican, 68-60, in a non-conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-1 on the year while Molloy drops to 3-3 on the season.

Ashley Evans (Londonderry, N.H.) and Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) both turned in double-double performances with Evans totaling 16 points and 10 rebounds while Williamson finished with 11 points and 10 boards. Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) had 13 points and a season-high eight assists as well as a team-high three steals while Delaney Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) had 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

The game was virtually deadlocked through the first half, with the Owls holding a 16-15 lead after the first quarter and a 35-31 lead at the break. The Owls were stellar from the floor before the break, hitting on 13-of-27 from the floor including a 4-for-9 nine from three-point range.

The Owls pulled away from the Chargers in the third when they shot 10-for-13 from the floor. Dominican put up a battle in the second half as they opened with an 8-4 run to pull within a point, 39-38, with just under seven minutes to play. The Owls then countered with a 14-4 run, as Evans and Williamson dominated to lead the Owls to an 11-point advantage, 53-42. Evans poured in eight points while Williamson accounted for the other six points in the run. Down the stretch, it was Evans and Williamson trading hoops as Southern took a 57-49 lead into the final quarter.

Using a 6-1 run to open the fourth quarter, the Owls opened up their lead t the largest of the game, 63-50. Dominican was able to get the lead down to five, 65-60, but the owls stifling defense and three points off of free throws from Connors and Amalbert sealed the 68-60 win.

Southern returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 27 when it hosts Caldwell at 1 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
