SCSU Women's Basketball Picks Up First NE10 Win Against Pace

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball picked up its first Northeast 10 Conference win of the season with a 60-33 win against Pace. The Owls improved to 5-1 on the season with their third-straight win.

Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) fell a rebound short of her third-straight double-double as she tallied a game-high 16 points with nine rebounds and a block. Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) finished with 10 points and three steals while Delaney Haines (Portland, Me.) knocked down a pair of three-pointers on her way to eight points off the bench. Renza Milner (Carlsbad, Calif.) had four points and eight rebounds as well as three assists.  In total, 10 different Owls scored in the win.

A slow first half saw the Owls holding a 19-17 lead before they blitzed the Setters and outscored them 41-16 over the final 20 minutes. Southern outmatched Pace, 19-7 in the third, and 22-9 in the fourth.
Coming out of halftime, the two teams traded hoops over the first four minutes as the Owls held on to a 25-22 lead. Southern took off over the final six minutes of the third quarter on a 13-2 tear that saw Williamson register four points while Haines scored the Owls' last five points of the quarter on a three-pointer and a lay-up to give Southern the 14-point edge heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, The Owls banged home three-straight three-pointers to open up a 21-point lead, 50-29, with 7:20 to play. Amalbert and Williamson both scored again before Milner's layup off an offensive rebound gave Southern a 23-point lead, 56-33 with three minutes to play. Pace's basket at 4:06 would ultimately be their last of the game as the Owls sealed the win on an Alexa Kellner (Stamford, Conn.) jumper and a pair of free throws from Hope Fox (Guilford, Ind.).

Milner has emerged over the Owls last two games, totaling 11 points and 17 rebounds in a reserve role in the Owls' last two wins while Williamson has been unstoppable in the Owls' three-game winning streak. The second-year Owl is averaging 12.5 points and 11 rebounds in her last three games while shooting 16-for-34 from the floor.
