SCSU Women's Basketball Falls To Bentley, 65-55

WALTHAM, Mass. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball lost to Bentley, 65-55, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Waltham, Mass. The loss drops the Owls to 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in NE10 play while Bentley improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Delaney Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) and Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) both led the Owls with 11 points each. Connors also totaled five rebounds and four assists while Williamson had a pair of blocks. Isabella Santoro (Durham, Conn.) finished with nine points and six rebounds while Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) had six points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Bentley led 14-10 through the first quarter before the Owls opened the second quarter with a 14-3 lead to take a 25-17 lead with 5:41 to go before the half. Bentley answered and outscored Southern, 10-4, over the remaining time before the break to send the game into the break with the Owls leading, 28-27.

Eight different players scored for Southern in the first half as they continued to show a balanced attack. Williamson led Southern with nine points in the first 20 minutes while Connors chipped in with six, with three assists. The Owls forced nine Bentley turnovers in the first half, on five steals including two from Zoe Amalbert, converting eight points. The Owls also converted another eight second-chance points off of eight offensive rebounds in the first frame.

Both teams battled back in fourth to start the third quarter before Bentley took the lead, 41-38, on a three-pointer by Cassidy Yeomans with 5:04 to play. They then scored the last five points of the quarter to head to the fourth leading, 48-42.Coming out of the third intermission, Bentley converted on seven its first 10 shots of the quarter, as well as 3-for-3 from the free throw line, to take a 61-49 lead with 5:33 to play. Southern put up a fight down the stretch but couldn't over the gap.

The Owls are back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 6 when they travel to Garden City, N.Y. to take on Adelphi in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
