How It Happened

  • Southern Connecticut started the game on a 7-2 run through the first three minutes of play. After Southern New Hampshire picked up three points off an AND-1, the Owls rattled off a 9-0 run ignited by back-to-back three-pointers from Alexa Kellner. The Penmen countered with two-straight baskets, but Delaney Haines closed the quarter with a three-pointer before the last minute and a half was scoreless on both ends.
  • SNHU started the second quarter with a 7-2 run of their own, but SCSU still led, 21-16. At the 5:20 mark, SNHU's Jessica Knight had a 5-2 run that brought the Penmen within four points of the Owls lead. SCSU capped the quarter by narrowly outscoring the SNHU, 5-4, and went into halftime with a five point lead.
  • Third quarter action saw a tight scoring race between both sides, but Southern Connecticut led by seven at the conclusion of the third frame.
  • The fourth quarter of play was complete pandemonium. After SNHU grabbed the first bucket of the quarter, the Owls rattled off a 7-0 run with three points from Delaney Connors and four from Jessica Fressle to take a 53-41 lead. The Penmen found a sweet spot in their offense and went on a commanding 11-0 run to come within one of the Owls lead, 53-52. SCSU notched back-to-back baskets from Haines and Zoë Amalbert, but SNHU charged down the court with two-straight three-pointers that tied the game with just over two minutes to play in the game. Fressle hot hands sank a three-pointer with 1:23 that started a 9-0 run for the Owls, 67-58. SNHU capped the game outscoring SCSU 6-4.
