Softball Opens Second Day Of The Spring Games With 8-6 Win Against Felician

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Southern Connecticut State University softball improved to 2-1 with a 8-6 win against Felician at The Spring Games at DiamondPlex in Winter Haven, Fla.

Katrina Roy was 2-for-2 with a run scored while Jessica Perucki hit a two-run homer and also pitched six innings to get the win. Perucki gave up four runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out five. Jayden Delaporta also drove in two runs in the Owls win.

Felician got on the board first on Daisha Howard's first of two home runs in the game in her first at-bat. Southern responded with a pair of runs in the inning. After Roy doubled to lead-off the inning, Liz DeRosa dropped down a bunt that found some open space for a base hit as Roy moved to third. After DeRosa stole second, Delporta's fly ball to right field scored Roy to tie the game before Angela Barressi's drove in DeRosa with the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to deep center field.

Felician tied the game again in the top of the third. In the fourth, Perucki worked an eight-pitch at-bat to draw a walk before Madelyn Sauve entered as a runner. Roy bunted Sauve over to second and Delaporta delivered a base hit to score Sauve and give the Owls a 3-2 lead.

In the fifth, Julianna Corbett walked to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a wild pitch and then moved to third on a ground-out by Ally Petrella. After Emily Lange was hit by a pitch, Jacqueline Dumont drove Corbett in with a sacrifice fly to give the Owls a 4-2 lead. Lange then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch before Perucki connected and crushed a two-run homer over the left field wall to give the Owls a 6-2 lead.

Felician cut the Owls lead in half in the sixth before Southern pushed two runs across in the bottom half of the inning. Felician pressed with two runs in the top of the 7th, but Jazmyn Martinez, pitching in relief of Perucki, pitched out of the jam for the Owls' win.
