SCSU Softball Rolls To 8-2 Win Against St. Thomas Aquinas

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Southern Connecticut softball defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-2, in the Owls' first game of their third day at The Spring Games. With the win, Southern improves to 3-2 while STAC drops to 2-8 on the year.

Emily Lange was 3-for-4 with a two-run double while Jacqueline Dumont, Jayden Delaporta, Katrina Roy and Liz DeRosa all collected two hits for the Owls. Southern's offense erupted for a season-high eight runs on 13 hits. On the mound, Jessica Perucki improved to 3-0 on the year after holding STAC to a single earned run on seven hits over five innings pitched. Jazmyn Martinez logged two hitless, scoreless innings.

The Owls pushed three across in their first at-bats as they strung together four hits. Dumont drove a two-out double to get the rally going and moved to third on a single by Delaporte. Dumont scored on the next pitch on Delaporte's stolen base before Roy sent a laser down the left-field line to score Delporte. DeRosa then blasted a single to the gap to score Delaporte and give the Owls a 3-0 lead.

After St. Thomas scored in the top of the fifth, the Owls got the run back when Delaporte drove in Lange. STAC answered to cut Southern's lead to 4-2. In the sixth, Julianna Corbett slapped a one-out single to left field before Dominique DeLutri pinch-hit for Angela Barressi and drove the first pitch of at-bat off the outfield wall for a double to score Corbett. Gabriella Festa walked and stole second before Lange turned on an offering and drove it into the corner to score both runs. Lange then stole third and scored on a wild pitch to give the Owls a six-run lead.

Martinez came on in the sixth and pitched out of a pair of jams to end the game for the Owls.
