Softball Drops a Pair of Decisions at Post

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut softball team dropped a pair of decisions to Post University, 9-1 and 3-1, at LaMoy Field. With the losses, the Owls fell to 4-6 overall, while the Eagles improved to 5-5.

Game 1: Post 9, Southern Connecticut 1 (five innings)
Sophomore Katrina Roy (Bristol, Conn.) went 2-for-3 in game one with a double and a RBI. Senior Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) went 3-for-3 in game one with a double.

How It Happened
  • Post picked up a pair of first inning runs off back-to-back doubles, which proved to be the deciding run after five innings.
  • After Jacqueline Dumont knocked a double down the left field line in the third, Katrina Roy kept her hot streak alive with a double to center field that drove Dumont home. The Eagles countered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch.
  • The Eagles went on to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the fifth to defeat the Owls, 9-1.

Game 2: Post 3, Southern Connecticut 1
Katrina Roy was on point in game two for the Owls with two hits in three at bats adding a RBI to her daily total. Senior Ally Petrella (Willington, Conn.) went 2-for-3 at the plate, while sophomore Emily Lange (Monroe, Conn.) picked up a hit and a run.

How It Happened
  • Post had the initial strike in the first inning scoring an unearned run on a passed ball.
  • The Eagles picked up their second run of the game with a RBI single to left field, 2-0.
  • In the sixth inning, Lange got on base for the Owls with a single to center field. After Jacqueline Dumont reached first base on an error, Roy singled to center field and brought Lange home to cut the Eagles lead to one.
  • The home team capped their scoring with a RBI single to center field that scored the Eagles third and final run in the sixth.
