NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut softball team split a pair of contests with Le Moyne, a 12-4 win (six innings) and a 3-0 loss, at Pelz Field. With the split, the Owls moved to 11-13 overall and 6-6 in the Northeast 10, while the Dolphins moved to 11-15 overall and 3-7 in the NE10.

Madelyn Sauve (Mansfield, Conn.) went 2-for-3 in game two with three RBI and one run scored.
Jayden Delaporta (Mystic, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, while
Ally Petrella (Willington, Conn.) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and
Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) and
Liz DeRosa (Hudson, N.H.) knocked in two RBI apiece and scored four runs collectively, all in game two.

Game 1: Le Moyne 3, Southern Connecticut 0
Le Moyne got on the board first in the third inning. Brooke Nicolaos hit a two-out single down the left field line with Cassidy Barrett picking up a single herself through the left side. With runners on first and second, Alyssa Dybacz poked a double down the left field line to score Nicolaos. With Victoria Catalano earning a walk in the next at bat, Perucki pitched herself out of the bases loaded jam and struck out Mckenzie Bergdoll to retire the side.
Play was quiet until the sixth inning when Le Moyne struck again. Dominique Russo reached base on an error and subsequently advanced to second on the play. In the next at bat, Dominique Rinaldi reached on another Owls error, which scored Russo from second for their second run of the game.
The Dolphins increased their lead in the seventh. After Makenzie Konik reached base on a clean bunt, Isabelle Boudreau singled and moved Konik over to second. Nicolaos reached on a throwing error in her at bat, allowing Konik to score and cap the game for the Dolphins, 3-0.

Game 2: Southern Connecticut 12, Le Moyne 4 (six innings)
It was Southern who struck first in game two. After
Jayden Delaporta walked for the Owls first baserunner of the game,
Jacqueline Dumont plugged a shot through the right side that saw Delaporta put the wheels on to third from first. With runners on the corners
Madelyn Sauve, squeaked the ball in the gap between short and third for a RBI single that scored Delaporta.
Le Moyne's offense came alive in the fifth inning. Victoria Catalano earned the first baserunner of the inning for the Dolphins with a one-out double down the left field line. McKenzie Bergdoll singled and advanced on the throw to second, while scoring Catalano in the process and tie the game. Taylor Cox came in to pinch run for Bergdoll and scored on the next play. Dominique Rinaldi scored Cox from third with a single to right field to give the Dolphins the lead, 2-1.
The Owls had answers in the bottom half of the inning as
Ally Petrella had a lead-off single to right field.
Emily Lange (Monroe, Conn.) reached on a throwing error and advanced Petrella to second. Both Petrella and Lange subsequently stole their next bases, respectively. Delaporta was hit by a pitch in her at bat that loaded the bases. Dumont stepped to the plate and in her at bat, Petrella squeaked home on a wild pitch to tie the game a two apiece. The first-year player, Sauve, stepped to the plate and knocked a two RBI double down the left field line to give the Owls the lead once again. Dumont, on third, scored on the tag on a fly-out, while Sauve advanced to third, and eventually scored on another wild pitch, 6-2 Owls.
The Dolphins did not go away quietly. In the top of the sixth, Brooke Nicolaos hit a lead-off single to get things started. Alyssa Dybacz reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Catalano helped get Le Moyne runs back with a single to left field that brought both Nicolaos and Dybacz home, and the Owls lead to two, 6-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Owls earned three-straight walks to load the bases. Delaporta stepped to the plate and hit a dynamite shot to center field that scored two runs and doubled up the Owls lead. In the next at bat, Dumont hit a bouncing shot to the shortstop that brought home two more runs for the Owls.
Liz DeRosa took her opportunity to poke a RBI single to right field that scored Dumont, 11-4. DeRosa eventually came around to score on a ground out as the Owls went on to capture the eight-run victory in six innings.
