Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 15 SCSU Men's Soccer Tops Saint Anselm, 1-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Nationally-ranked No. 15 Southern Connecticut defeated Saint Anselm, 1-0, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. With the win, the Owls improve to 4-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in NE10 play while Saint Anselm took their first loss of the season to drop to 5-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the NE10.

The Owls used an early goal by defender Arnold Signell (Lindigo, Sweden) to power their attack against the Hawks. Just under seven minutes into the game, the Owls received a corner. Alex da Cunha headed a shot on goal that was stopped before Zico Groenveld's attempt off of the rebound was also turned back. After the ball drifted to the top of the box, the opportunistic Signell hammered a shot on goal that tucked inside the near-side post to put the Owls on top, 1-0.

Owls goalkeeper Devin Juan (Meriden, Conn.) made two nice saves in the win, which gave him his fourth shutout of the season. He drops his goals-against average to 0.71 for the year while his save percentage jumped to 0.828.

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Adelphi at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls' win against Saint Anselm was the first of four-straight home games as they also host Franklin Pierce on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Le Moyne on Saturday, Oct. 1.
