The first half saw a close battle between the two teams with the Owls heading into halftime with a six-point lead, 36-30. The second quarter saw three lead changes as the teams' exchanged baskets over a three-minute stretch. Leading 29-28, Southern closed out the half with a 7-2 run.

Coming out of the half, it was more of the same as Southern pushed its run to 16-4 to take a 52-34 lead with 1:55 to go in the third. Santoro guided the Owls in that span, scoring eight of her 15 points. The fourth quarter saw Southern use another run, 12-2 to take a 64-41 lead before coasting through the final frame for the win.

The Owls' hot touch from the floor gave them their second-best shooting game of the season, and their best against a NE10 opponent. From long range, it was the second time the Owls' knocked down eight three-pointers in a game – following a nine three-pointer performance at Adelphi on Dec. 6. The Owls' 61.5% from three-point range was its best single-game percentage since Nov. 11, 2013 when they shot 63.6% against Concordia.
