SCSU Women's Basketball Falls To New Haven, 69-51

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball lost to New Haven, 69-51, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in West Haven, Conn. With the loss, Southern dropped to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in the NE10 while New Haven improved to 4-6 in the conference and 7-7 overall.

Isabella Santoro (Durham, Conn.) had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the Owls while Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) had six points and seven boards. Santoro shot a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range.

New Haven lead for most of the game, despite a solid first quarter effort for Southern that saw the Owls trailing by just three points after the first frame. New Haven started to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring Southern, 18-12, to take a 35-26 lead heading into the break.

The third quarter proved to be the push that New Haven needed to increase its lead, outscoring Southern 21-10. Southern managed to respond by outscoring New Haven, 15-13, over the final 10 minutes of play. Southern reserves Rheyna Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) and Delaney Haines (Portland, Me.) were solid down the stretch. First-year Owl Steinauer totaled five points and two steals in 10 minutes while Haines finished with four points, three rebounds and a pair of assists. Alexa Kellner (Stamford, Conn.) also came off the bench to score four for Southern.

Southern returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18 when it hosts Le Moyne in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House at 5:30 p.m.
