SCSU Women's Basketball Falls To Le Moyne, 74-63

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –  Southern Connecticut women's basketball lost to Le Moyne, 74-63, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn. With the loss, Southern dropped to 10-6 overall and 5-5 in NE10 play while Le Moyne improved to 12-5 overall and 7-4 in conference action.

Delaney Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) had 19 points, connecting on 6-of-8 from the floor and an incredible 5-for-5 from three-point range. Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) had 16 points and eight assists while Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) had 18 points and six rebounds. Renza Milner (Carlsbad, Calif.) had a game-high 12 rebounds with six points and two steals.

Neither team shot well in the first quarter, with the Owls holding on to a 10-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Amalbert contributed five points in the first frame. Le Moyne took the lead less than a minute into the second period, 16-13, and then used a 13-5 run that saw the Dolphins open up an eight-point lead, 26-18, after hitting on 5-of-8 from the floor. Southern hit on just 3-of-7 in the final five minutes of the half that witness Le Moyne hold the scoring edge, 10-6, to take a 32-24 lead into halftime.

The Owls battled back on the third quarter, outscoring Le Moyne, 23-19, to cut the Dolphins lead to 51-47 heading into the fourth quarter. The Owls kept it close for the first two minutes of the quarter before using an 11-2 run, capped off by a three-pointer by Amalbert, to give Southern a 45-42 lead with 3:22 to play. Le Moyne closed the quarter with an 8-2 run to take the four-point lead into the final break. Williamson was dominant in the quarter, totaling 12 of the Owls' 23 points.

In the fourth, Delaney Connors hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 53-53. From there, Le Moyne took off on an 11-2 run to take a 64-55 lead with five minutes to play. Connors was crucial down the clutch after she accounted for 14 of the Owls' final 16 points, but in the end Southern could not get Le Moyne's lead under six.

Southern returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 when it travels to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at 1:30 p.m.
