SCSU Volleyball Beats Assumption in a 3-1 Battle

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut volleyball beat Assumption University, 3-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference battle at Pelz Gym. The Owls improve to 11-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Greyhounds drop to 6-6 overall and a conference record of 1-2.

Southern won the first closely with a scoreline of 25-21. In the second set, Assumption fought back and forth with Southern to take the set, 28-26. The Owls took the third set with a scoreline of 25-16. In the fourth set, the Greyhounds continued to battle hard; however, Southern toughened it out with a 25-23 victory. 

First-year Carissa Michel led the team in kills with 13, as senior Sara Enright followed closely behind with nine kills and senior Kacey Deecher added six kills to the team's total. Libero Aubrey Villena led the team with 20 digs, while Ahunna James had 16 digs and Lily Miller had 11 digs of her own. 

Villena and Michel had a team-best of three service aces each. First-year Sarah Stark had a career-best and team-best of eight blocks as Enright and Kendall Webber had five blocks of their own. Taylor Jones had 24 assists, while Lily Miller added 13 assists for the Owls. 

Southern will have a two-game road trip next week as they will face two NE10 opponents, The College of Saint Rose, on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 pm in Albany, New York. Then on Friday, Oct. 13, the Owls will travel to Rindge, New Hampshire for a 5:00 p.m. matchup against Franklin Pierce University. Southern returns to Pelz Gym on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 5:00 p.m. for another conference match against Adelphi University.
