NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut women's basketball defeated Adelphi University, 56-46, on Tuesday night in an NE10 matchup at the James Moore Field House. Southern improved to an overall record of 2-2 and an NE10 record of 1-1. Adelphi dropped to an overall record of 1-4 and an NE10 record of 1-1.
The Owls came ready to play, as they went on a 7-0 run to start the game off. Southern would outscore Adelphi, 16-6 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Panthers fought back to inch closer to Owls' lead. Heading into halftime, Southern was still hanging on to the lead with a scoreline of 26-15.
In the third quarter, Adelphi gained the lead with two minutes left in the quarter but Southern got the lead back and went into the fourth quarter, up by one. The Owls worked together to keep the lead and outscored the Panthers, 23-14, to get their second victory of the season.
Katie Williamson led the team with a career-best of 20 points, had a team-best of eight rebounds, two assists, was 8-for-15 in field goals, was four-for-four from the free-throw line and had a block.
Delaney Haines and
Jillian Martin both had nine points, with majority of them, coming in the second half of play. Haines recorded five rebounds, shot three-for-six from the three-point line, which was a team-best and had a block. Martin led the Owls in assists with six and had two steals.
Renza Milner had seven points, grabbed three rebounds and dished two assists against Adelphi.
Hope Fox recorded a team-best of eight rebounds, scored seven points, had three assists and two steals. Mackenzie Helms had four points and two assists against the Panthers as
Ashley Evans recorded four rebounds, two assists and two points for the Owls.
The Owls return to action on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 1:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C. in a non-conference matchup against the University of the District of Columbia.
